Bring Warmth to a Family this Winter
Donate to H.E.A.T. to Help Families in Need
While winter will mean thoughts of holidays and snowmen for many, some families will dread the winter season. Those families will wonder how they will stay warm when they can no longer afford their increasing energy bill.
That’s where H.E.A.T. (Heating Energy Assistance Team) steps in. A nonprofit organization established in 1983, H.E.A.T. provides energy assistance to Georgians in need. Nearly 4,600 Georgia households were helped in 2005.
One of those households was that of the Russell family. Sandra Russell, a diabetic with a disabling condition in her feet, raises three grandchildren on a fixed income. H.E.A.T. funds allowed the family to stay warm when money got tight. “It’s so important for people to give to H.E.A.T.,” she says, “especially when cold weather is on the way.”
Families receiving assistance must meet certain guidelines in order to receive funds, including income eligibility.
Since its inception, H.E.A.T. has helped more than 78,000 families like the Russells in Georgia, providing more than $15.5 million in assistance during its 23 years.
