Give the Gift of Warmth this Winter
Donate to H.E.A.T. to Help a Family in Need
Many of us take being warm for granted, especially following a summer of extreme high temperatures. But, as fall begins and cold weather draws near, many people wonder how they will stay warm if they can’t pay their energy bills. In 2005, the Aaron family was one of those families.

One in five Georgia households will struggle to pay their heating bills this winter. Your gifts allow H.E.A.T. to help those with the greatest need get caught up on their energy bills so that they can get back on their feet. |
In 2004, Frank Aaron was diagnosed with kidney cancer and was laid off from his job. He and his wife, Julia, poured all of their savings into surgery to remove his cancer. Fortunately for the Aarons, the surgery was successful, but Frank had a difficult time finding employment again.
In 2005 he was rehired by his former employer, but by then the family was too deep in debt – they were forced to file bankruptcy. Just a few months later, they were told that Frank had leukemia.
Julia dedicated the next seven months to helping her husband recover. She split her time between visiting their daughter, two-year-old Kathryn, in their northeast Georgia home and Grady Hospital in Atlanta, where Frank was being treated.
“That December I realized we needed help to keep our home warm,” says Julia.
That’s when the family turned to Heating Energy Assistance Team (H.E.A.T.), a nonprofit organization that provides energy assistance to families in need.
The aid that the Aarons received from H.E.A.T. helped them pay their winter heating bills.
“I am very grateful that people care enough to contribute to H.E.A.T. and help people in need like our family,” says Julia.
The Aaron family is among the more than 80,000 Georgia families who have benefited from receiving H.E.A.T. funds since the organization’s inception in 1983. Donations made to H.E.A.T. are tax deductible and can help families like the Aarons stay warm this winter and get back on their feet.
