Q: How does Walton EMC Natural Gas determine its rates?

A: Like most natural gas companies, our rates are directly related to the national price of gas. The market for natural gas changes every day. It trades just like stock. We set our prices based on the market.

Q: Should I choose fixed or variable?

A: Again, the market for natural gas is ever changing. Selecting the variable rate means you pay the fluctuations in price no matter how low or high they may go. Signing up for the fixed rate means you are making a 12-month commitment to pay that rate regardless of market conditions. In recent history, customers have saved with the fixed rate plan, but there are no guarantees. The choice is ultimately yours.

Q: If I choose the fixed rate, when is the best time to lock in?

A: Prices are volatile, but you can make an informed decision. Visit www.psc.state.ga.us to look at what months historically offer the lowest natural gas rates.

Q: Why do I get a base charge from Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) in the summer even though I'm not using much, or any, gas?

A: The cost to maintain pipes and deliver gas doesn't disappear in the summer. So, even though your base charge is lower in summer, AGL must still charge for this.

Q: Where does Walton EMC Natural Gas get their gas, and how is it any different from other marketers?

A: It's not different. It's exactly the same. Most of the gas purchased for Georgia comes from the Gulf of Mexico.

Q: What should I do if I think I have a gas leak?

A: Leave the area immediately and call AGL. Do not reenter the building until you are told it's safe.

Q: How do I know if I should call WEMNG or AGL?

A: Only call AGL if you smell gas. Otherwise, call us.

Q: How can I cut my gas bill?

A: Here are some tips from our experts to help lower your monthly gas bill:
  • Maintain your heating/cooling system for efficiency
  • Change filters regularly
  • Install a programmable thermostat
  • Weatherize
  • Conserve hot water
  • Run appliances with full loads

Q: I have Walton EMC Natural Gas at home, but not at work. Can you serve businesses, too?

A: Absolutely! Walton EMC Natural Gas serves commercial, industrial and residential accounts all over Georgia.
